- חַיִיל, חַיִלm. (b. h.; חוּל I) 1) (surrounding, protection, army.Pl. חֲיָילִים, חֲיָילוֹת. Mekh. Bshall.s.1. Ib., Shirah, s.3. Ib. 4 לספק אכסניות לכל חֲיָילוֹתָיו to provide pay for all his troops. Midr. Till. to Ps. 48:14 (ref. to לחֵילָה ib. = לחֵילָהּ) לחֲיָילוֹתֶיהָוכ׳ to her (Jerusalems) hosts that shall enter it (as pilgrims); a. fr. 2) strength, health. Gen. R. s. 54 יישר חֵילְכֶם may your strength be confirmed (I thank you)!; Midr. Sam. ch. XII חֵילֵיכֶם; Yalk. Sam. 103 חֵילֵיכֶן. Num.
